Kno-Bu’s Trend Alert: Faux Fur Frenzy

Posted on: September 14th, 2015

London Fashion Week

Eclectic Faux Fur

If the fall/winter weather of 2015-16 resembles anything like last year, you’ll undoubtedly want to wrap yourself up in the coziest and warmest of outerwear to stave off the biting air; and there’s no better way to do it than with faux fur. You’ll not only look smashing, but you’ll feel good knowing the luxurious threads you’re donning is the right thing to do when it comes to steering clear of animal cruelty. Yes, you can totally pull off a luxe look with faux fur.

Animal activists love these animal friendly designs, especially with the likes of faux fur pioneer, Donna Salyers. It isn’t any wonder why, it’s composed of acrylic polymers: no cruelty, no animal by-products found here. You’ll experience only the warmest of fuzzies knowing you protected an innocent critter in the name of fashion. Morality aside, no one can deny that fake fur is one of the most luxurious ways to keep stylishly chic during the cold weather months.

Due to its alluring aesthetic appeal, the faux fur trend is on the rise. The unconfined nature of this luscious fabric lends itself to light, bouncy movement, which makes it perfect for accessories, such as boas and wraps. From plush hats to luxe fur collars, poofy purses and fuzzy vests, faux fur adds a fashion-forward edginess to your fall/winter ensembles.

This season you’ll see legions of street-style stars pulling off the look with faux fur scarves and outerwear. Pastel, along with boldly colored furry coats will take center stage in outerwear. Whereas cheetah and leopard-print fur stoles will be the hot look in cold weather accessories. With the season’s vast array of offerings, there’s really no limit to the looks one can pull together.  And this trend does not appear to be slowing down in the imminent future. In fact, the controversial American furrier, Dennis Basso (who, mind you, we have mixed feelings about) has launched a host of affordable, high quality faux fur designs on QVC.

There are ways to mix the perfect faux fur ingredient into your wardrobe and to pull it off fashionably. Wanna donn this cutting-edge look without feeling like Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman”? Start with baby steps by investing in a faux fur vest. This staple is a must have for your cool weather wardrobe. It adds a classy twist to a whole host of looks AND you’ll get tons of mileage without breaking the bank. Please, please please avoid the “street corner girl” look by pairing your waistcoat with solid colors – and be sure to stay with neutrals such as brown, gray or black. The right faux fur accessory is another way to add panache to your fall/winter uniform(s). We’re giddy about plush animal-print stoles and infinity scarves. Keep it simple and earn street cred when enhancing any look with a fuzzy handbag, or handbag charm.

We’d love to hear how you’re planning on meshing this mod trend into your wardrobe. Please leave us your comments below.

Go West with Kno-Bu!

Posted on: March 2nd, 2015

We’re not letting chilly temperatures get us down because we’ve  got the West in mind – the wild, wild West! But don’t worry, we’re not talking about beating the cold by watching a John Wayne marathon or shopping for our Halloween costumes early. Cool Westerns styles and patterns have been coming back in a major way, but with a modern twist that makes even the most costume cowboy idea look office-ready. Not sure where to start to make sure your Western look looks for spring 2015 and less last year’s Halloween? Shop our picks below for the perfect mix of subtle Western influence and surprising style.

Western

Go full-on Western with a tailored plaid shirt or a jean jacket that provides a 2015 take on a classic Western look. If accessories are more your style, try a wide-rimmed hat, tooled leather crossbody or subtly Western-inspired ankle boots, so give your jewelry a Western twist with leather, raw materials and more to emulate the look of this ring, bracelet and necklace.

Kno-Bu’s Falling for Florals!

Posted on: February 11th, 2015

It’s no secret that the right floral print can add the perfect amount of ladylike pizzazz to an outfit, especially during these months when the sun is shining but it’s not quite time to whip out your pastel sundresses. If you’re worried about floral prints looking too young or too matronly, there’s nothing to worry about. The secret is finding the right print that strikes the right balance between girly and modern.

The bigger the flower, the better, as allover prints of tiny flowers tend to look like they are straight out of your grandmother’s closet. Stick to subtle or muted colors instead of an overwhelming neon or bright palette to look grown up, not girlish. Whether you want to go subtle with a floral print accessory or are ready to take the flowery plunge, we’ve got picks for every outfit and occasion!

Floral

Go all over floral with grown-up patterns on a dress that’s as ready for brunch as for the office, or a sweet floral peplum top that is perfect for brightening up colder days. Or how about these menswear-inspired loafers in a classic floral print?

If you’d rather keep it subtle, opt for a floral phone case that comes in plenty of colorways to suit your mood, or an abstract floral scarf to add a pop of color near your face.

Tell us how you plan on donning this ever-so-ladylike print…..

Shop the Look: Blushing Beauty

Posted on: February 4th, 2015

The weather outside may still be reminding us that’s it’s January, but I’m definitely ready to start dressing for spring. A personal favorite for this season are blush tones. They’re feminine but grown up, which is perfect for coffee dates, the office and even Valentine’s Day! I can’t wait to add a few new pieces to my wardrobe, and I’ve put together ideas for how to wear blush tones wherever you go. I hope you are as inspired as I am!

Blush 1

For your… brunch date

It may be the weekend, but why not go casual cute on your next brunch get together? Give a sweet blush sundress a Western vibe with suede ankle boots and a handful of gold rings, then grab your favorite crossbody and get ready to enjoy your mimosas!

Blush 2

For your… big meeting

Impress your boss with your ideas and your outfit. Take the classic workwear combination of a white blouse and black trousers, add a classy gold watch as an elegant statement accessory and then slip your stunning blush cardigan over everything to make a poised statement.

Blush 3

For your… weekend getaway

Ditching the winter cold in favor of warm weather? Don’t forget to bring your stylish leather sandals and wide brimmed hat for a chic weekend look that keeps you shady. Add a dangling gold necklace and last but not least, swipe on blush-colored lipstick for the sweetest  pop of natural color.

Blush 4

For your… romantic evening

Charm your date in a romantic blush sheath dress that’s feminine and elegant, and add extra class with pearls, delicate drop earrings and leg-lengthening nude heels. He’ll be swept off his feet!

Only a few weeks until we get to gather with our families, friends and loved ones for Thanksgiving and celebrate the time-honored tradition of eating until we can barely move. Thanksgiving brings families together and kicks off the holiday season, so here at Kno-Bu we’re more than a little excited. And can you say pumpkin pie? That’s right, we’re pretty much counting down the days.

You need a look that does it all with comfort and style, and that’s where we come in. Kno-Bu is all about comfortable and fashionable pieces that you can change to match your personal style and the occasion. Kno-Bu Trend Finder: Boys … Think Pink!

Posted on: October 17th, 2014

Pink is no longer just for girls.  Pink is gender neutral.  Pink is the new red … for boys.

Don’t believe me?  Just look on any youth football field, in any middle school or high school classroom, on any college campus and even in any corporate boardroom.  Boys and men alike are sporting light pink, hot pink and every shade in between.  Dressy or casual, light or bright, pink is cool.  Even manly.  And what better time to get your sons and/or husbands on the pink fashion bandwagon than October for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  At the risk of sounding like I’m naming the newest Spice Girls, here are a few of my favorite ways for boys and men to show their Pink Pride:

Dressy Pink

Don a pink and navy striped necktie or a pink dress shirt with a navy suit to that next client meeting or wedding … classic and modern at the same time.

Groom-In-Navy-and-Pink-700x692

Sporty Pink

Get your pink on the field with pink socks, t-shirts, mouth guards and cleats.  If the NFL and college football teams (like Oregon) can wear pink, so can young boys.

Casual Pink

From polo shirts and shorts to bold t-shirts and gym shorts, anything goes … especially for young boys, tweens and teens.

A bold pink statement

My boys love pink (click here to read my latest blog post, Real Boys Wear Pink).  They wear it proudly during October and every other month of the year.  I think they may even have more pink clothing than I do … and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Still think pink is girly?  Tell all those college and professional football players that.  I dare you.
